While returning on his pedal cycle on Monday night from a holiday visit to his aged father, John West (56) of 38 Dallshill, Byfield, was involved in a collision with a motor car at Daventry. he suffered a fractured skull and died in hospital yesterday. West, who was employed by Northamptonshir County Council as a roadman had been visiting his father at West Haddon. He reached Daventry on his pedal cycle on his homeward journey safely. Riding from New-street towards Byfield, across the Sheaf-street -- London-road junction, his pedal cycle was in collision with a car, driven by Miss Alexandra Minnie Flack of 420 St Albans-road, Watford, Hertfordshire. West was thrown on to the car in the collision. The windscreen of the car was smashed and he driver received cuts on the ankle from flying glass. West was knocked unconscious. Dr A E Harrisson and Dr R Moser attended West at Daventry, and he was sent to Northampton General hospital in the Daventry ambulance. The pedal cycle was completely wrecked. The car was travelling in the direction of London at the time of the collision. P.C.s Morris, Willey and Fraser were quickly on the scene of the accident.
