  NOTES: As it seems so far - Gilly was the daughter of David and Edith Ray. She probably married John H McCutcheon about 1855/56 as daughter Priscilla was born abt 1857. Its worth noting that Gilla Ray and John McCutcheon lived 2 census entries away from each other in 1850. I have to assume John McCutcheon died (rather than left Gilly) abt 1859 as daughter Isabella was born abt 1859/1860 AND I suspect John's brother James would have left too if John had just 'absconded' for pastures new. Gilly wasnt remarried in July 7 1860, so I tend to belive the 'unsourced' references of Gilly remarrying G W Lewis in late 1862 (especially with Georges 1st wife not dying until (unsourced) October 1862.) With those dates in mind - it seems reasonable to me that Minter Flack Lewis (born est 1862) was the last child of Margaret Ann DeBerry, and not Gilley as previously thought. That compounded with the fact that after George's death in 1864, Minter Flack Lewis (born est 1862) went with Georges eldest daughter Cordelia from his 1st marriage - and last son John (born est 1864) stayed with his mother Gilly. As to Gilly's parentage - if I am am correct in my back tracking - Gilly had a sister Elizabeth who married Jas M Bledsoe - and if you look in the 1870 census, Gilly has Martha Blesoe (age 10) living with her as well as 2 of her own children. Sister Elizabeth maybe having died. To me - all these points add up to me having made the correct assumptions on Gilleys parentage. I know its only census data - but its by far the best I have to go on so far - and it actually makes logical sense. Comments ALWAYS welcome though !! Jim Flack - 12 Jun 2009.
