Sunderland Daily Echo and Shipping Gazette 13 September 1932 [findmypast] ==================================================== Sunderland Mother Denies Husband's Allegations. Thomas Flack, Addison Street, a coal trimmer, was accused at Sunderland Police Court today of deserting his wife, Mary. Mr L Wolfe appeared for Mrs Flack and Mr Morton Smith defended. Mrs Flack gave evidence the marriage took place on September 3, 1910. They lived at 25 D'Archy Street, and had eight children of whom six were living. On July 25, 1929 her husband turned her out of the house, and she had maintained herself since by wirking. Mrs Flack denied being addicted to drink or having committed misconduct. Flack gave evidence that for 21 years his wife had gone out "drinking, backing horses, and borrowing money all over." He did not want his wife back, and offered to allow her 7s 6d a week. Phoebe Flack (18), a daughter, was called on behalf of the father. The Bench dismissed the case on the ground that desertion had not been proved.
